WRS Health Partners Releases CoverMyMeds’ Electronic Prior Authorization Functionality to EHR Customers

WRS Health today released electronic prior authorization (ePA) functionality to all of their electronic health records (EHR) users through their partnership with CoverMyMeds, the nation’s largest ePA platform. This partnership brings ePA capability to the WRS Health EHR workflow, supporting provider decision making at the point of prescribing, and allowing them to complete prior authorization (PA) requests in workflow.

Prior authorization (PA) is the formulary management process of requiring pre-approval for certain prescribed medications. Historically, the PA process takes the form of paper, faxes and phone calls between medical practices, pharmacies and insurance companies. Electronic prior authorization transforms the paper-based PA workflow into an electronic process that minimizes prescription abandonment and administrative waste.

Implemented properly, the ePA process provides real-time decision support by submitting the PA to the patient’s prescription coverage plan during the e-prescribing process. The result is the patient avoids a delay in receiving medication, and is less likely to abandon therapy.

WRS Health is now part of the more than 500 EHR and E-Prescribing vendors committed to implementing ePA with CoverMyMeds. Currently, more than 600,000 providers and their staff use CoverMyMeds to manage prior authorization, either through an integrated EHR solution, or the Company’s web portal, both of which facilitate PA requests for all health plans and any medication at no cost to the provider or pharmacy.
