Being sick is scary, no matter the condition.

Dealing with a serious illness such as multiple sclerosis or cancer can be exponentially more terrifying. Throw a complex, expensive process of garnering treatment for that illness into the equation, and it’s a recipe for medication non-adherence and additional hospitalization.

That’s why CoverMyMeds chose to develop an in-workflow electronic solution for specialty medications. Our mission at CoverMyMeds is to help patients get the medication they need to live healthy lives, and this is all the more pertinent with illnesses that require specialty medications.

Specialty medicines can be defined as therapies that treat more difficult conditions, such as multiple sclerosis or cancer, and often require special handling, monitoring and are extremely expensive. According to CMS, on average a specialty medication is classified as costing over $670 per prescription to fill.1

CoverMyMeds specializes in electronic prior authorization (ePA), and while we’ve been processing prior authorization (PA) requests for specialty medications since the beginning, our innovation team began recognizing that not only are these medications going to require a PA (which they almost always do), but their complexity is exacerbated by the need for a doctor to begin enrollment documentation, time-intensive up-front processes and consistent patient monitoring.2

Additionally, only specific specialty pharmacies can fill these medications, and a doctor will need visibility into that information to share with the patient at the point of prescribing. Due to all of these factors, a patient can often wait 3-6 weeks for treatment.3

CoverMyMeds has the unique ability to leverage our vast network of payers, pharmacists, providers and life science brands, to guide the way for building the technologies that solve the workflow problem when prescribing specialty medications, and get patients started on their life-changing medication as soon as possible.

CoverMyMeds helps reduce time to therapy for specialty medication to as few as 1.5 days

Our solution has been working for ePA, reducing the time to therapy for specialty medication from 17 days, to as few as 1.5 days.4 We’re applying the same learnings that made that process so successful to new, innovative features, (such as electronic enrollment) to further expedite the process. Let us talk to you about our specialty solution and everything it does for the provider and patient.
